Author Margo Wasserman Waring was born and educated on the East Coast and Midwest (New York University, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin), Margo’s life changed when she moved to Alaska in 1969 and shortly after joined the Juneau community. Juneau’s community and the surrounding Tongass National Forest have been at the core of much of her poetry. Margo is married to Douglas Kemp Mertz and has a son, Edward Nathan Mertz. After retiring as State of Alaska policy analyst and planner, she served on the school board and focused on the League of Women Voters and climate activism. Margo is forever grateful for the encouragement and support of her writers’ group. Margo’s poetry has been published in Cirque, Tidal Echoes, AWS, electronic venues, and locally at Bus Omnibus and Writers Weir.
Margo's life and work has been intimately connected to her community of Juneau, Alaska. Growing Older in this Place: A Life in Alaska's Rainforest and her book Sheltering: A Covid Journal in Poetry and Prose 2020-2021 reflect this deep connection.
